Methodology

Every annual throughput figure on Portflow is the number published by the port authority itself. Everything faster than monthly — daily lifts, vessels alongside, anchorage queues, berth waits — is deterministically modeled from those published totals plus a regional seasonality profile. The same day produces the same numbers for every visitor. This is a model, not a live AIS feed.

REPORTED

Published by a port authority or operator and retained as the source baseline.

ESTIMATED

Derived from reported information where the requested interval is unavailable.

MODELED

Generated by Portflow's deterministic activity model; never presented as a live feed.

TEU activity: Daily lifts vs. the port's own 30-day baseline. Vessel activity: Arrivals, vessels worked and inbound queue. Berth utilization: Vessels alongside as a share of container berths. Wait-time efficiency: Inverse of average anchorage wait, capped at 48h. Time at berth: Inverse of average vessel time alongside. Growth: Month-over-month and year-over-year TEU trend.

Underlying figures: 30,787 TEU lifted in the last 24h, 14 vessels alongside of 21 container berths, 7.1h average anchorage wait, 17.6h average time at berth, -4.9% month-over-month and 2.6% year-over-year TEU. See the full port page.

Global Port Index

The index is the throughput-weighted mean of every tracked port's activity score: each port's score is multiplied by its latest reported annual TEU, summed, and divided by total annual TEU. That weighted mean is then rebased so that a fully average network — every port scoring in the middle of its own range — prints around 1,000. Large ports therefore move the index more than small ones, in proportion to the boxes they actually handle. Today the index reads 1270.47 across 100 ports, covering 1.66M TEU lifted in the last 24 hours.
